'Silent' Retreat in April

A small group of Wilshire members has found spiritual support in an annual “listening prayer retreat,” and they want to invite others to join them.

Also known as a “silent” retreat, the weekend is structured to help participants clear their minds to hear from God.

Dates are April 9-11. Location is Camp Arrowhead Retreat Center near Glen Rose.

The retreat has been an annual event since 1995 and is jointly coordinated by members from Wilshire, Lake Shore Baptist Church in Waco and Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth. A number of other churches have joined the retreat as the years have progressed.

Although begun by Baptists, all who seek a contemplative experience of Christian community are welcome.

Participants may choose to arrive on their own schedule on Friday, and the group will gather for the first time at 7 p.m. Judy Prather will serve as facilitator for the retreat, guiding an observation of silence beginning Friday evening and lasting about 36 hours.

Participants are free to rest, read, journal, explore, reflect or create during the dedicated time of silence. Optional experiences available include time by the river, walking the labyrinth, art, crafts, contemplative prayer times and hiking. A space is designated for offering and requesting prayers of intercession. Participants also may bring books or devotional resources to contribute to a lending library during the silence.

Cost is $110 per person for a private room or $85 per person for a two-person room.

More information is available from Judy Davies at (254) 751-1651. Registration deadline is March 26. Mail registration to All Things New, 8502 Oakdale Dr., Woodway TX 76712.
