Becoming A Member

Have you found a home at Wilshire? Are you ready to take the next step and become a member? Wilshire provides opportunities to join the church on Sunday mornings during the closing hymn or on Wednesdays at the fellowship meals. Additional ways to join are during "coffee and conversation" for prospective members at 9:40 a.m. on the first Sunday of the month in the pastor's office, or by turning in a new member card to the office or in the offering plate during worship. In the latter case you will be contacted by a minister who will counsel you about membership. New members are officially received into the church at the quarterly church conference. If you have any questions before joining, don't hesitate to contact Dr. Mason, either by calling him at (214) 452-3132 or by e-mailing him.

These are the terms we use when discussing ways to join the church:

By profession of faith and baptism. Those making a public profession of personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord are received into membership upon their baptism.

By reaffirmation of previous baptism by immersion.  Those professing their previous baptism by immersion in keeping with the meaning practiced by Wilshire are received upon that statement. Wilshire understands baptism to be a believer’s commitment to follow Christ in the pattern of Christ’s own life.

By letter or promise of letter. Individuals who are members of other Baptist churches are received by that church’s letter of recommendation or by promise of it. Wilshire will write to the previous church for the letter.

New members are encouraged to attend a special one-time class called Connections to learn more about becoming fully engaged as a Wilshire member.
