Opportunities for Giving

Wilshire offers a variety of opportunities for financial stewardship that match your interests with God's work in Dallas and the world. The starting place for stewardship is the Ministry Fund, which undergirds the basic operation of the church. This annual fund is the primary place for tithes and offerings. The Ministry Fund keeps the lights on, pays staff salaries, buys crayons and paper for children's Sunday School and sends hundreds of thousands of dollars in aid to Wilshire's mission partners down the street and around the world.

If you're looking for ways to give beyond the Ministry Fund, here are some ideas both for one-time gifts, such as memorials or estate gifts, or for recurring "over-and-above" gifts.

BENEVOLENCE FUND.

PATHWAYS ENDOWMENT. This special fund underwrites Wilshire's part of the pastoral residency program, which was started and has been sustained by generous grants from the Lilly Endowment. Those grant monies are now tapering down, and Wilshire needs to pick up more of the cost of the beloved program without putting a strain on the Ministry Fund. This is an ideal place to give special offerings in memory or in honor of a loved one or mentor. It's also an ideal place to leave a gift from your estate. The Pathways Endowment is just that, an endowment, so that your gifts help grow a corpus that will never be spent down. Only the earnings from the endowment will be spent. Our overall goal for the corpus is more than $7 million.

BUILDING RESERVE FUND. Wilshire is embarking upon a brave new plan to reduce the need for future capital campaigns. With the investment of an extra amount equalling one-tenth of Wilshire's annual budget, the Building Reserve Fund can provide regular, scheduled maintenance and updates to the property, so we won't have to make special appeals to replace the carpet, to paint or replace air conditioning. You can contribute to the Building Reserve Fund by increased annual giving, by special one-time contributions or by memorial gifts.

LIBRARY CONNECTION. Most of the books and resources in Wilshire's library have been purchased with donated funds. You can make a contribution toward current needs in general or you can choose a particular book to give in honor or in memory of someone.

WORLD HUNGER FUND. One of Wilshire's foremost missions causes is the World Hunger Fund administered by the Baptist General Convention of Texas. This fund addresses root causes of hunger in Dallas and around the world. We support the World Hunger Fund through the annual Souper Bowl of Caring and the Ministry Fund, but additional regular giving to this fund are essential as well.

MUSICIAL INSTRUMENTS SUPPORT. Designated contributions are received to expand or replace special musical instruments such as the handbells and parts of the organ, among others.

VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION FUND. Wilshire has a special fund that helps anyone who wants to go on a mission trip afford to do so. Part of this effort is supported by the Ministry Fund, but needs are supplemented by designated contributions.

CBF GLOBAL MISSIONS OFFERING. The work of our Cooperative Baptist Fellowship field personnel around the globe is made possible by special giving to the global missions offering.

DESIGNATED MISSIONS CAUSES. Most all of Wilshire's missions partners rely upon contributions for individuals and churches to keep their work going. If you'd like specifically to support the work of Buckner International, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Healing Hands Ministries or any other mission partner, mark your contribution with the appropriate designation.
