Wilshire's Adoption and Foster Care Ministry seeks to build a community of encouragement and support with adults and children who come together through adoption and foster care.

Fall 2017 marked the beginning of some wonderful changes in our ministry. The first one is that Wilshire’s adoption and foster care ministry will begin to partner with My TreeHouse. Rosalind Funderburge, from My Treehouse, will begin leading the support for adoptive parents. Joan Hammons will continue leading the support for foster parents and what we do in child care. Staci Langley will continue as our child care supervisor.

One other change is that we’re now partnering with other groups in our church who need child care. This means we will have more children and will not have to be as concerned with having a minimum number of children to open child care. As always, we focus on infants through sixth graders. We hope to be able to have a group for teenagers at some time, but we aren’t there yet. This of course means our child care will not be only foster children and children who have been adopted. However, I can assure you that the needs of your children will be a major priority for us. In addition, we will continue to offer a few Parent’s Night Outs, which will give you a break and allow me to focus specifically on your children.

The dates for our upcoming support meetings are listed below.

Each event will be held at Wilshire Baptist Church from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Sometimes the parent groups will end earlier in order to give you some time to talk with other parents. Of course, you may also choose to pick your children up early if that works better for your family.

One other change is that we’re moving to an online registration for our events. You will receive a link prior to each event which allows you to register your family, or you can find the link in the Child Care section on the Wilshire registration page. Keep in mind that we always welcome any biological children you have, as long as you register them for the event.

The events offered at Wilshire Baptist Church are free to adoptive and foster parents. Respite parents are invited to attend any training sessions we offer and may bring children with them if they have foster children at the time of the event.
