Classes meet at 9:40 a.m. on Sunday mornings.
One size doesn’t fit all in adult Sunday School at Wilshire. Especially if you are new to Wilshire, we encourage you to try on several classes until you find the right fit.
Most classes, unless noted, include both men and women, couples and singles. Although general age ranges are given, people of all ages are welcome to participate in any class.
Aspen - Room 2370
Open to men of all ages, this class currently includes men in their 40s and 50s—some married, some single. Informal teacher-led discussions follow a standard curriculum. Discussion centers on biblical truths and how to apply them to daily life. Directed by Byron McCoy and taught by Scott Powell.
Banta - Room 3202
Strong friendships and fellowship are important to couples in this class that primarily studies books of the Bible, but occasionally uses standard curriculum. Although mainly concentrating on New Testament studies, teacher Rob Banta also ventures into the Old Testament and to other topical studies. Most couples are in their 60s and have grown children.
B.E.S.T. - Room 3211
Boomers Encouraging and Studying Together is the thread that holds this class together. Class fellowship with a commitment to missions describes this group of caring, involved Wilshire members who strive to be involved in all aspects of the church and welcome you to join them. Most class members are 50 to 65 in ages, and many have children in college and beyond. The class is directed by Harry Wakefield.

Women ranging in age from 40s to 60s gather for a prayer-centered class where learning from each other and ministering to each other are valued. Women of all ages are welcome, as are women of all stages of life. Led by Judy Gunnels and taught by Linda Garner and Micki Lacker, the class enjoys lively discussions built around a standard Sunday School curriculum.
Cord of Three -Room 3308
Couples and singles, mainly in their 50s, share a vision for developing caring relationships, participating in stimulating Bible study and lively discussion, and welcoming members and visitors alike. The class takes its name from Ecclesiastes 4:12: “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” The class is directed by Jerilynn Armstrong.
Epiphany - Room 3208
Couples and singles in their 40s and 50s, many with children in high school or college, engage in robust discussion of biblical topics presented by a variety of teachers. This is a class where you’re sure to have an occasional epiphany, if you’re open to discussion and considering new ideas. The class is directed by Steve and Lu Terry.
Discovery - Room 1205L
Taught by Associate Pastor Mark Wingfield, Discovery Class is an easy entry point for anyone new to Wilshire or new to adult Sunday School. This is an open enrollment class, meaning class participants include both regular members and frequent visitors from other classes who want to engage in specific studies. Lessons are arranged in blocks around books of the Bible or biblical topics of interest. Recent studies have focused on Revelation, heaven and world religions. Discovery is a no-threat class where you’ll never be called on to read or pray aloud or feel out of place because of your level of biblical knowledge.
Horizons - Room 3203
Singles from thirty-something to sixty-something gather in Horizons for a variety of topical studies. Class directors are Dee Anne Bostic and Kimmy Wright. The class features a rotation of teachers and study topics. Singles from various backgrounds and of different ages add to the lively discussions.
