Median Adult Classes

classfriendsClasses meet at 9:40 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

One size doesn’t fit all in adult Sunday School at Wilshire. Especially if you are new to Wilshire, we encourage you to try on several classes until you find the right fit.

Most classes, unless noted, include both men and women, couples and singles. Although general age ranges are given, people of all ages are welcome to participate in any class.

Foundations of Faith - Room 3305
This class (starting Jan. 22, 2012) is especially created for those who want to increase their overall understanding of the Bible and its content, as well as those who may be new to church life and want to learn the Bible for the first time. We will start with a 30 week overview of the Old Testament, and will then offer a New Testament Class beginning  in August 2012. Led by a variety of Wilshire teachers and directed by Dennis and Laura Smith, the class will be a great way to meet others and find a place to plug in. If you haven’t found a Sunday School home, try this class. All are welcome.  Schedule of topics and teachers.

Banta - Room 3202
Strong friendships and fellowship are important to couples in this class that primarily studies books of the Bible, but occasionally uses Smyth & Helwys. Although mainly concentrating on New Testament studies, teacher Rob Banta also ventures into the Old Testament and to other topical studies. Most couples are in their 60s and have grown children.

B.E.S.T. - Room 3211
Boomers Encouraging and Studying Together is the thread that holds this class together. Class fellowship with a commitment to missions describes this group of caring, involved Wilshire members. Most class members are 50 to 65 in age, and many have children in college and beyond. The class is primarily taught by Bill O'Brien.

Cord of Three -Room 3308
Couples and singles, mainly in their 50s, share a vision for developing caring relationships, participating in stimulating Bible study and lively discussion, and welcoming members and visitors alike. The class takes its name from Ecclesiastes 4:12: “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” The class is directed by Jerilynn Armstrong.

Epiphany - Room 3208
Couples and singles in their 40s and 50s, many with children in high school or college, engage in robust discussion of biblical topics presented by a variety of teachers. This is a class where you’re sure to have an occasional epiphany, if you’re open to discussion and considering new ideas. The class is directed by Steve Terry.

Mosaic - Room 2375
“Come As You Are” is the theme for this blended class of single parents and couples with children. Common bonds are authenticity, acceptance and a willingness to hold the hands of members in need. Most members are early 40s to mid-50s with elementary to high school children. The class shares responsibility teaching on topics from biblical history to today's headlines.

Discovery - Room 1205-L
Taught by Associate Pastor Mark Wingfield, Discovery Class is an easy entry point for anyone new to Wilshire or new to adult Sunday School. Lessons focus on books of the Bible or biblical topics of interest. Recent studies have focused on the Gospel of Mark, Revelation, heaven and world religions.

Concordia  - Room 3205
This class was formerly called Horizons. The name Concordia comes from Latin and means "in agreement or unity." The adults who gather with teachers Mark Eggert and Chris Gordon each Sunday are in agreement that faith is a journey and not a destination. None of us has all the answers, but this class enjoys asking interesting and challenging questions to further their understanding of the Christian faith. The class is made up of both single and married adults, parents and non-parents and it follows a pre-planned curriculum consisting of relevant topics, studied through scripture.

Circle of Women - Room 3201
A group of women of differing ages, walks of life and backgrounds growing in faith by the power of the Holy Spirit through Bible study, prayer, care, fellowship and service. Taught by Linda Garner and Charlene Law, the class enjoys lively discussions built around a standard Sunday School curriculum and sometimes special literature.

Aspen - Room 2370
Open to men of all ages, this class currently includes men in their 40s and 50s—some married, some single. Informal discussions led by Scott Powell follow from the Smyth & Helwys curriculum.  Discussion centers on biblical truths and how to apply them to daily life.
