Committees and Ministry Teams

The Committee on Committees works annually to evaluate committee structure and make recommendations to the church regarding committees. The Committee on Committees nominates members for all church committees and fills vacancies as they occur.

The Building and Grounds Committee assists the staff with the maintenance and repair of church property by developing plans for the future to improve the efficient use of the church premises and enhance the security of the church property.

The Adult Education Committee reviews the performance of the Adult Education program and makes recommendations to the Minister of Adults for improvement of the program. The committee also promotes growth in adult classes, reviews curriculum, evaluates space and resource needs, identifies leadership, assists with training and recognition.

The Childrens Education Committee reviews the performance of the childhood education program and makes recommendations to the Minister to Children. The committee also promotes growth in the program, reviews curriculum, helps recruit and retain teachers, establishes policies to ensure safety of children in all church activities.

The Preschool Education Committee reviews the performance of the preschool education program and makes recommendations to the Minister to Preschoolers. The committee also promotes growth in the program, reviews curriculum, helps recruit and retain teachers, establishes policies to ensure safety of preschoolers in all church activities.

The Family Life Committee develops programs that recognize various types of family units within the church ministry, plans opportunities for spiritual, emotional, social and educational growth, promotes enrichment for marriage, parenting and families.

The Finance Committee develops the church budget and works with the Church Business Administrator to monitor income and expenses, approving monthly financial statements and reporting them to the church. The committee also reviews, in consultation with staff, all designated fund accounts to encourage their use consistent with the donors' intent.

The History Committee maintains an archive and repository of records, materials and other items of significant historical interest to the church. The committee also prepares publication from time to time and plans church anniversary activities.

The Home Visitation Ministry Team keeps a current record of all homebound members, including those who are temporarily confined and develops a plan to meet the ongoing needs of those members.

The Memorial & Endowment Committee assists the staff in developing and promoting a program of memorial giving and approves expenditures of funds from the memorial accounts in accordance with the intent of the donors.

The Missions Committee supports and promotes partnership missions by developing and maintaining relationships that provide opportunities for Wilshire to be on mission. These include meeting the needs of people locally and globally, supporting church starting and creating awareness of and interest in missions.

The Deacon Nominating Committee makes annual recommendations for the selection of new deacons.

The New Member Committee helps new members become assimilated into the church family by supporting the Connections Class, assisting with new member fellowships, greeting new members upon joining and presenting them new member packets.

The Personnel Committee establishes the duties and responsibilities of all ministry staff positions and maintains the Personnel Manual. The committee has ultimate responsibility for recommending new ministry staff to the church. It also recommends ministry staff compensation, conducts performance reviews and recommends to the deacons and church the creation or elimination of staff positions.

The Stewardship Education Committee seeks to expand Christian stewardship individually and church-wide through education, communication and goal setting. The committee directs a coordinated effort in the areas of fund raising and stewardship development in consultation with the staff, both in an annual emphasis and throughout the year. The committee also coordinates special offerings in consultation with the staff before they are presented to the church, promotes the use of grants, endowments and other sources of funds to further the church's ministries.

The Worship and Music Committee assists the Music Minister in promoting and encouraging participation in the graded choir program and in recruiting volunteer leadership for the graded choir program. The committee establishes policies for the use of all music facilities and equipment and consults with the Music Minister in selecting the primary hymnal for use by the congregation. The committee consults with the Personnel Committee in the employment of professional or ministry staff in the music programs. The committee also works with staff in preparation for special worship programs.
