“Senior adult” is a positive term at Wilshire. Whether you’ve just turned 60 or you’re looking at 80 in the rearview mirror, there’s a place for you to find fellowship and meaningful service at Wilshire.
In addition to Sunday School and Wednesday lunch and Bible study and in addition to churchwide missions efforts, here are some of our most popular senior adult activities:
Wilshire Adventurers: This is a fellowship and travel group that provides monthly activities for all adults 55 and older. A committee of senior adults plans these activities in consultation with Associate Pastor Mark Wingfield and Minister to Senior Adults Jessica Capps. Activities range from game days at the church to weeklong trips around the country.
New Song: Wilshire’s senior adult choir is the epicenter of action for senior adults in the area. This is a community choir that has representation from 15 churches beyond Wilshire. Any senior adult is welcome to sing in New Song, regardless of church membership and regardless of previous experience. The group rehearses on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in Choral Hall. 4-S Ministry: The four “S” name derives from stitching, sewing, stuffing and stripping. Those are the basic skills applied by this mission-minded group of senior adults that produces pillows and blankets for the sick and hospitalized, as well as stuff animals as gifts to children. The group meets the third Tuesday of each month. Contact Jessica Capps for more information.
Touch Ministry: Faithful volunteers gather on the fourth Monday of each month to write notes to those who are ill, those who have visited the church, those who have had birthdays and others in need of an encouraging word. Contact Jessica Capps for more information.
Computer classes: A team of Wilshire volunteers teaches basic computer classes twice a year in our own computer lab. Learn how to operate a computer and how to use common programs such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Contact Max Post for more information at 214-823-6733.
