Missions stands at the heart of who we are as Baptist Christians. We are united around the mandates of Jesus to go and make disciples of all nations and to care for those in need. Many Wilshire members are engaged in direct missions activities. A major portion of the church budget is devoted to missions support as well.
Missions isn't just for adults at Wilshire. From mid-August through May, children in preschool through elementary school learn about missions through a unique curriculum called Globetrekkers. Youth at Wilshire are involved in missions in the community, as well as, nationally/internationally through youth choir trips, etc. Wilshire also has mission opportunties in which entire families may participate.

State Missions - Wilshire has three primary partners for mission work across Texas:
- Baptist General Convention of Texas - This is a statewide affiliation of 5,000 Baptist churches who work together to fund missions work, theological education, church starting, ministry and more.
- Buckner Benevolences - Buckner is the premier Christian social service agency in Texas, and it's part of the Texas Baptist family. Buckner serves Texans through children's homes, foster care, adoption services, retirement homes and a host of international programs as well.
- CBF Texas - Wilshire is a strong partner in the state expression of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Working together, like-minded Texas Baptist churches engage in missions, ministry and theological education.
National Missions
- Church Builders of Texas- Every third full week in July, Wilshire members participate in building a church in the United States. The trip is open to all ages. For more info: Yvette Patton 214-232-7587
International/Global Missions
The Dominican Republic
Wilshire partners with Buckner International and Esperanza International to provide short-term mission trips, financial assistance, and other support to the important work being done in The Dominican Republic. The partnership is brand new to Wilshire with our first trip in 2010. Work to be done includes construction, work with children, staff support for both agencies, prayer support, education about microfinance, and medical work, among other opportunities. The trips will be structured differently for interests and ages of those participating. Opportunities are available for all ages and interests.
North Africa
Wilshire has taken several trips to North Africa to support the work being done to assist those with physical limitations and girls incarcerated due to poverty. Trips are planned according to the need.
Wilshire's primary partner in global missions is the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Through CBF, Wilshire supports career missionaries around the world, as well as short-term and volunteer mission workers. Our mission is to serve Christians and churches as they discover and fulfill their God-given mission. Another mission partner is the Baptist World Alliance.
The Baptist General Convention of Texas encourages, facilitates and connects churches in their work to fulfill God’s mission of reconciling the world to himself.
We are a fellowship of transformational churches sacrificially giving ourselves to God’s redemptive purpose. Continually being transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit into the likeness of Christ, we join together to transform our communities and the world. Engaging culture, we reach people where they are for an encounter with Jesus Christ.
We share a vision of the world’s peoples coming to know Jesus Christ and becoming transformed in his image. As a fellowship of diverse churches, we advance the Kingdom in ways individual churches cannot do alone and we celebrate our unity in the larger body of Christ’s church. As local churches we are called to be the presence of Christ in the world.
We accomplish our work through individuals with diverse backgrounds who love Jesus Christ and his church. Lives, families, communities and nations are transformed as ordinary Christians take extraordinary steps of faith in obedience to God.
