In addition to the weekly cycle of youth activities and studies, the Wilshire Student Ministry offers several annual camps and events:
Youth Camp: This is the biggest week of the year for the larger student ministry. We load up a couple of buses and take youth in grades 7 through 12 to a week of camp designed just for Wilshire. It’s not someone else’s camp that we become a small part of; it’s our own fun-filled week of recreation, Bible study, learning, playing and having a great time.
Youth Choir mission tour: This weeklong tour is the icing on the cake for Youth Choir members who earn Frequent Singer Points throughout the year. The 80-voice choir travels to destinations mainly within the continental United States for a week of singing and service. Recent destinations have included Memphis, Tenn.; Boston; New Orleans; Chicago; and New Mexico. In 2010, the youth took their first international trip to the Dominican Republic.
DiscipleNow: This winter event is a weekend emphasis on personal discipleship. Students are divided by grades and spend the weekend staying in host homes together, where they study, play, sing, eat, learn and have a great time.
Fall retreat: Each fall, the youth group takes a weekend retreat to a nearby camp to get away from the hassles of school and commitments and focus on a spiritual theme.
Summer weekday missions: Throughout the summer, Wilshire youth participate in Tuesday Missions, which takes them to local service agencies to lend a hand, as well as Monday visits to a nursing home to sing.
