MOPS - Mothers of Preschoolers
MOPS, which stands for Mothers of Preschoolers, is a Wilshire ministry designed to offer stress relief, encouragement and spiritual nourishment to mothers of preschoolers. This is an international movement, and Wilshire is a charter member of MOPS International.
Wilshire's MOPS group of about 80 moms meets from 9 a.m. to noon every other Friday, from September to May. There is a registration fee each semester to cover supplies and structured child care for preschoolers while the moms enjoy time together. Scholarships are available for anyone who needs financial assistance.
MOPS meetings begin with brunch and time for fellowship. Then participants hear from one of the Mentor Moms, who provides advice and encouragement from the perspective of a mom who has “been there.”
We also invite guest speakers to our meetings; these are often professionals with helpful perspectives for mothers of young children. Past topics include discipline, spiritual guidance of children, marriage, financial planning, first aid, home organization, etc.
We have also participated in a group book studies and small craft mission projects.
Throughout the meeting, there is time for fellowship, prayer and discussion. It is a great opportunity to realize you are not on this motherhood journey alone, to share in your experience, and to seek encouragement.
The children (from newborn to preschoolers) participate in MOPS Kids, a unique curriculum designed especially for them.
